Here's a quick reminder that you can make your own very accurate taper thickness gauge. Kenny Hill made this one from a simple wedge of birch plywood. Just slide the gauge under until it touches to get the correct reading. The more gentle the taper, the more precisely you can graduate it. Kenny builds classical guitars, and marks his in millimeters:
